Get the room and items ready
Unplug and remove computers, screens and personal documents before the assembly appointment. Clear room for the longest desktop and for the completed desk to reach its final position. Decide whether existing equipment will be reconnected by the owner, and provide the accessory instructions rather than loose brackets without an identifiable model.
The manufacturer desktop, frame, feet and fixings should be a compatible set. Hollow or lightweight tops may not accept an arbitrary monitor clamp or screw pattern. Cable trays and drawers need suitable clearance throughout adjustment. Use supplied power components only as directed; damaged cables or uncertain electrical modifications require a separate qualified assessment.
Plan access and the order of work
A narrow office nook can leave insufficient space to assemble an L-shaped desk. Confirm whether the return attaches on the left or right and whether panels can pass the doorway after assembly. Shared workspaces and downtown condos also need a plan for noise hours, floor protection and keeping the exit path open.
The team inventories the frame and top, confirms orientation and assembles the furniture and agreed accessories to their instructions. Placement follows before checking drawer travel, foot contact and cable clearance. Where a powered desk is included, only the manufacturer user-level setup is performed; equipment is kept clear of moving sections during demonstration.
Photographs that clarify this task
- Desk model and all accessory labels.
- Room corner showing the intended left or right return.
- Desktop underside and any existing fixing damage.
The assessment matches the top to the specified frame, checks equipment clearance and identifies drawers, modesty panels and cable accessories. For height-adjustable products it records the exact model and supplied electrical components. Desk installation does not assess the building circuit or promise an ergonomic outcome from photographs alone.
Know the limit before arrival
Furniture assembly excludes hardwired electrical work, network installation and modification of desk motors or controls. Wall-mounted worktops, heavy equipment brackets and damaged frames need their own scope. A sit-stand mechanism that faults or binds is not forced through its travel; the unresolved condition is documented for manufacturer or specialist support.
Send the service, property postal code, preferred date and the relevant preparation details together. Share private access instructions only when arranging the actual visit.
Planning example
A worker has a computer, two monitors and several private documents on the old workstation. They remove and unplug these before the furniture appointment, preserving a clear responsibility for reconnection afterward. The preparation also identifies the monitor-arm model and desktop construction. This avoids discovering after assembly that the clamp is unsuitable for the supplied top or that equipment handling was never included.
Downtown Toronto context
A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
