What this job is trying to solve
A base cabinet run must accommodate an uneven floor while preserving usable doors, drawers and the planned worktop position. Levelling is part of a whole layout, not simply making each cabinet look straight in isolation. Confirm the appliance spaces, finished heights and support arrangement before accepting the floor condition as a minor detail.
The assessment compares the cabinet plan with measured floor variation, wall alignment and appliance requirements. It checks whether existing plumbing or sockets conflict with the proposed units, without including relocation in the cabinet task. The condition beneath old cabinets may only become visible after removal, so the estimate should identify that uncertainty.
Choose the right extent of work
Base units on a prepared level floor and cabinets replacing an old damaged kitchen are different jobs. Compare removal, assessment, levelling, plinths, joining and appliance coordination individually. A quote that leaves worktop readiness undefined can shift avoidable disagreement to the templating appointment, even when the cabinet assembly price looks attractive.
Cabinet levelling does not repair rotten floors, structural movement or moisture sources. Plumbing, gas and electrical disconnections remain separate regulated work. If floor conditions prevent stable support, installation pauses for an appropriate remedy. Worktop fitting or stone handling is included only where explicitly agreed and suitable for the appointed service.
How the work is organized
The agreed sequence verifies the layout and floor conditions, assembles the units and establishes the intended aligned run using the manufacturer system. Appliance openings and front operation are checked before the next supplier proceeds. Any worktop readiness, remaining plinth work or unresolved floor concern is recorded instead of relying on a verbal assumption.
A small condo kitchen may have little space for assembled base units and boxed appliances at the same time. Plan the order of deliveries and a staging area with clear exits. Removal debris and new cartons need separate handling arrangements; expecting both in one elevator slot can reduce useful installation time substantially.
A useful first enquiry
- Kitchen layout with each base-unit code.
- Wide floor and wall views before installation.
- Appliance openings and any exposed floor damage.
Use the preparation guide to plan the space, and the written-scope guide to compare the proposed work.
Planning example
A homeowner wants replacement base cabinets beneath a new countertop. The old kitchen hides a floor dip near an appliance, so the planned finished height cannot be judged from the existing doors alone. Reviewing the exposed condition before final fitting helps distinguish ordinary levelling from a floor problem. That decision can also protect the later worktop appointment from being booked against an unfinished cabinet run.
Downtown Toronto context
A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
