Prefab kitchen installation
A prefabricated kitchen may arrive as ready-made cabinet boxes or as flat-pack parts requiring assembly before installation. We can review the layout, cabinet count, tall and wall units, doors, drawers, fillers, panels, plinths and handles as one project. Owner-supplied systems, including IKEA kitchen components and special orders shipped from China, need a verified inventory and clear product instructions. Kitchen work is more than setting cabinets in a row. Door swing, appliance openings, service locations, countertop dimensions and wall conditions all affect the final fit. A drawing that looks correct on paper may require a revised filler or a different fixing approach once the actual room is measured. We discuss those points before installation, especially when a condo limits drilling times, deliveries or contractor access.
Measurements and delivery
Provide a measured floor plan, ceiling height and photos of each wall, the floor and existing kitchen. Include the manufacturer’s drawings and a list of all packages, fittings and panels. Confirm whether demolition has been completed, the walls are ready and the floor is level enough for the proposed system. Keep cartons labelled until parts have been checked against the plan. Report missing or damaged items promptly, since a single end panel or hinge can delay final alignment.
For downtown condos, confirm service elevator bookings, loading procedures, permitted hours and storage space. Larger cabinet cartons may need a separate receiving plan. Elsewhere in the GTA, identify driveway access, stairs or any route that limits package size.
Installation sequence
A typical sequence checks the room and inventory, assembles any flat-pack cabinets, establishes reference lines, sets and secures cabinet runs, then fits doors, drawers and visible finishing components. Wall cabinet support depends on the wall structure and approved fixings. Tall units and islands need particular attention to stability and clearance. Hardware, alignment and operation are reviewed before handover.
Changes in wall position, a sloping floor or an incorrect plan can affect both timing and materials. Alterations should be discussed before cutting panels or fixing cabinets. Countertop templating and installation may require coordination with a separate provider after base cabinets are secure.
Related trades and project boundaries
Electrical work, plumbing, gas connections, ventilation and regulated structural changes require the appropriate licensed trades and permissions. Appliance connection and countertop fabrication are separate unless specifically agreed with qualified providers. The booking should identify which work is complete, which work is pending, and who coordinates the sequence. Condominium approval, permits and building rules remain part of the project plan.
Do not schedule a full kitchen installation as an ordinary small handyman visit. Send drawings and photos first; the work may need a site review, a staged timetable and a written scope before an installation date can be confirmed.
