Get the room and items ready
Remove chairs, decorative objects and fragile items around the dining position. Provide a clean protected staging area that does not put the finished tabletop directly on tile or grit. Identify extension leaves and their storage location before booking, and leave packaging available until the tabletop and base have been inspected together.
Use the original table hardware, manufacturer spacers and the supplied base components. Glass, stone and veneered tops require their own handling and fixing arrangements; they are not interchangeable substrates. Protectors or level adjustments should suit the product. Adhesive repairs to a cracked top are outside ordinary assembly and require separate assessment.
Plan access and the order of work
A large tabletop may need more than one handler even where its base is light. Confirm elevator dimensions, turning room and a temporary unloading position that does not block the corridor. In smaller downtown condos, plan where the table can be assembled before it is turned into its final position.
The visit verifies the top and base, protects contact surfaces and assembles the product in the manufacturer order. Handling arrangements are agreed before the table is moved upright. The final check includes stable floor contact, visible joint alignment and normal opening of the supplied extension mechanism where that function is included.
Photographs that clarify this task
- Table model and carton labels.
- Top material, base and extension hardware.
- Dining position with the route from the entrance.
The assessment records tabletop material, dimensions, base type and whether extension mechanisms arrive preassembled. Photographs help distinguish an intact boxed table from an older table with stripped fixing points. The plan also considers chair movement, nearby glazing and whether a protective rug will interfere with stable contact at the feet.
Know the limit before arrival
Assembly does not certify a table for an unspecified load, commercial use or standing on the top. Cracked glass, damaged stone and stripped structural attachment points require a stop and a separate remedy. Modification of a base to fit a different top is custom work, not a standard furniture assembly inclusion.
Send the service, property postal code, preferred date and the relevant preparation details together. Share private access instructions only when arranging the actual visit.
Planning example
A stone-top table arrives while the dining area contains boxes from a recent move. The owner clears a protected area for inspection and asks whether the handling team matches the top's requirements. Having space for four chairs is not the same as having safe space to assemble and turn the table, particularly beside full-height condo glazing and a narrow kitchen passage.
Downtown Toronto context
A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
