Why the price can differ
A useful estimate counts actual empty shelves and drawers, their depth, access difficulty and soil condition. Emptying and restocking can take more time than wiping and should be listed separately if offered. Ask whether liners, upper cabinets, under-sink areas and pull-out baskets are included; a kitchen size alone does not describe this optional task accurately.
Compare the same number of shelves and the same responsibility for emptying. A move-in clean of vacant cabinets differs from an occupied kitchen where belongings must be handled carefully. An estimate that includes liner replacement or hardware work covers additional tasks; ask for those items to be separated before deciding whether the cleaning allowance is reasonable.
Materials and included work
Choose a mild, surface-compatible method for each cabinet interior and control moisture at unsealed edges. Painted shelves may have cure restrictions, while raw particleboard can react badly to saturation. Clean kitchen-dedicated cloths and a suitable dry-debris tool are preferable to reusing bathroom tools. Replacing shelf paper or treating stains requires separate material selection and agreement.
Cupboard cleaning excludes pest treatment, leak repair, carpentry, hardware adjustment and handling unknown chemical spills. Absorbed stains or odours can remain in damaged board. Do not remove structural dividers or force a jammed drawer. If a cabinet contains droppings, extensive mould or unknown residues, the ordinary cleaning scope should pause for an appropriate assessment.
Ask these questions in writing
- Which cupboards, shelves and drawers will be emptied and cleaned?
- Who removes belongings, liners and approved removable shelves?
- How will leaks, pest evidence or damaged board change the scope?
Count the cupboards, shelves and drawers and identify their materials and any removable liners. Ask whether shelves lift out safely or are fixed in place. Under-sink cabinetry deserves a separate look for leaks and damaged boards. Photos showing open cupboards reveal depth and access better than a photograph of closed doors or a kitchen floor plan alone.
Account for access and change approval
Confirm safe access to upper cupboards without standing on counters or unstable furniture. Deep corner cabinets and fixed shelves can leave areas beyond practical reach. The quote should say whether approved removable shelves will be lifted out and by whom. Moving plumbing supplies or dismantling pull-out mechanisms is not implied by permission to wipe the cupboard interior.
A remote appraisal can change after hands-on review. Ask what condition changed, which options are available and how the revision affects the scope before approving extra work. If a material gap remains unexplained after matching the scope, seek an independent second opinion.
Planning example
Two cabinet quotes differ because one includes emptying and restocking while the other assumes the cupboards will be ready. The resident counts the shelves and drawers, then asks for the same preparation responsibility. Upper cupboards and a pull-out basket are named separately. The comparison now explains the handling time instead of assuming that the kitchen’s floor area describes the amount of interior storage work.
Downtown Toronto context
A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
