Get the room and items ready
Empty the agreed cabinets before the cleaner arrives unless packing or clearing has been separately priced. Keep food, dishes and medicines protected away from the work area. Decide whether shelf liners will remain, be removed by the owner or be replaced later. Mark any drawer that sticks so it is not forced during the visit.
Choose a mild, surface-compatible method for each cabinet interior and control moisture at unsealed edges. Painted shelves may have cure restrictions, while raw particleboard can react badly to saturation. Clean kitchen-dedicated cloths and a suitable dry-debris tool are preferable to reusing bathroom tools. Replacing shelf paper or treating stains requires separate material selection and agreement.
Plan access and the order of work
Confirm safe access to upper cupboards without standing on counters or unstable furniture. Deep corner cabinets and fixed shelves can leave areas beyond practical reach. The quote should say whether approved removable shelves will be lifted out and by whom. Moving plumbing supplies or dismantling pull-out mechanisms is not implied by permission to wipe the cupboard interior.
Document damaged surfaces, remove loose crumbs, then clean shelves, accessible corners and drawer interiors within the agreed list. Use controlled moisture and allow surfaces to dry before the owner returns belongings. Check that removable shelves are seated properly and that drawers move as before. Report under-sink dampness or unexpected pest evidence instead of covering it with liners.
Photographs that clarify this task
- Open cupboards showing shelf count
- Under-sink cabinet and visible water damage
- Stuck drawer or fixed pull-out arrangement
Count the cupboards, shelves and drawers and identify their materials and any removable liners. Ask whether shelves lift out safely or are fixed in place. Under-sink cabinetry deserves a separate look for leaks and damaged boards. Photos showing open cupboards reveal depth and access better than a photograph of closed doors or a kitchen floor plan alone.
Know the limit before arrival
Cupboard cleaning excludes pest treatment, leak repair, carpentry, hardware adjustment and handling unknown chemical spills. Absorbed stains or odours can remain in damaged board. Do not remove structural dividers or force a jammed drawer. If a cabinet contains droppings, extensive mould or unknown residues, the ordinary cleaning scope should pause for an appropriate assessment.
Send the service, property postal code, preferred date and the relevant preparation details together. Share private access instructions only when arranging the actual visit.
Planning example
The owner empties the selected food cupboards and packs dishes on a protected table. One fixed corner shelf remains in place, while old adhesive liner is left for a separate decision because removing it may affect the finish. This preparation makes the cleaning boundary visible. The cleaner is not expected to discard food, peel unknown coatings or decide how personal kitchen items should be organised.
