Get the room and items ready

Empty affected drawers and remove objects that block hinges or runners. Number the fronts in photographs if several look similar, and supply the exact replacement hardware. Keep pets and children clear while fronts are removed. Tell the assessor about previous adjustments or water exposure, which may explain why the same gap keeps returning.

Door hinges, mounting plates, runners, dampers and drawer fronts need to be compatible with the cabinet generation. Similar-looking fittings can have different overlays or movement. Reusing damaged screw holes is not automatically suitable. Any repair of the underlying board or replacement of obsolete hardware should be listed separately from ordinary adjustment.

Plan access and the order of work

The work requires room for open doors and fully extended drawers without blocking safe movement through the kitchen. Remove bins and floor mats that interfere with access. In occupied downtown condos, agree a manageable sequence so essential kitchen access can be restored between tasks rather than spreading detached fronts throughout the unit.

The visit identifies each affected opening and checks the cabinet before adjusting or replacing its hardware. Fronts and drawers are fitted to the model instructions, then reviewed across the run rather than one at a time in isolation. The owner sees normal operation, and any underlying movement or damaged substrate is documented.

Photographs that clarify this task

  • Whole cabinet run with doors closed.
  • Affected hinges, mounting plates and runners.
  • Open-front view showing rubbing, swelling or damaged holes.

Assessment checks cabinet stability, front condition, hinge and runner type, drawer alignment and any collision with nearby handles or appliances. A swollen panel differs from a misadjusted hinge. Photographs help identify patterns across a run, but operation may need to be observed before the cause and realistic remedy can be confirmed.

Know the limit before arrival

Adjustment cannot remove swelling, straighten a broken carcass or make incompatible replacement hardware fit properly. Structural cabinet repair, refinishing and utility-related appliance changes require separate scope. If the cause is moisture or movement, hiding the symptom with a new gap setting does not resolve the underlying issue and should not be presented as repair.

Send the service, property postal code, preferred date and the relevant preparation details together. Share private access instructions only when arranging the actual visit.

Planning example

A resident wants several drawers adjusted but fills each one with cookware before the appointment. Emptying the affected units and photographing which fronts rub gives the assessor a clearer starting point. The owner also identifies any previous water leak. That information helps separate an ordinary runner adjustment from a swollen panel or damaged cabinet, without assuming every sticking drawer has the same cause.

Downtown Toronto context

A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
