Review the agreed result
- Listed doors and drawers operate normally.
- Front gaps are reviewed across the run.
- Handles clear nearby surfaces and appliances.
- Underlying defects and excluded repairs are recorded.
Assessment checks cabinet stability, front condition, hinge and runner type, drawer alignment and any collision with nearby handles or appliances. A swollen panel differs from a misadjusted hinge. Photographs help identify patterns across a run, but operation may need to be observed before the cause and realistic remedy can be confirmed.
Keep the completion sequence clear
The visit identifies each affected opening and checks the cabinet before adjusting or replacing its hardware. Fronts and drawers are fitted to the model instructions, then reviewed across the run rather than one at a time in isolation. The owner sees normal operation, and any underlying movement or damaged substrate is documented.
Adjustment cannot remove swelling, straighten a broken carcass or make incompatible replacement hardware fit properly. Structural cabinet repair, refinishing and utility-related appliance changes require separate scope. If the cause is moisture or movement, hiding the symptom with a new gap setting does not resolve the underlying issue and should not be presented as repair.
Care after the visit
Clean hinges and runners according to the manufacturer guidance rather than adding unspecified lubricant. Avoid using open drawers as steps or leaning heavily on doors. If an adjusted front moves again, report it with photographs; repeated adjustment can mask a failing fixing or moisture problem that needs a different remedy.
Door hinges, mounting plates, runners, dampers and drawer fronts need to be compatible with the cabinet generation. Similar-looking fittings can have different overlays or movement. Reusing damaged screw holes is not automatically suitable. Any repair of the underlying board or replacement of obsolete hardware should be listed separately from ordinary adjustment.
Keep a record of an unresolved item
Compare the result with the approved written scope. Record any unfinished item, agreed exclusion or required specialist follow-up separately. Use ordinary observation and the provider’s demonstration; do not overload or destructively test an installation.
- Whole cabinet run with doors closed.
- Affected hinges, mounting plates and runners.
- Open-front view showing rubbing, swelling or damaged holes.
Planning example
The fronts now look even when closed, yet a corner door handle strikes the neighbouring drawer during normal use. The owner asks for both openings to be reviewed together. Completion should cover movement and collisions as well as appearance. If the chosen handles or layout create the conflict, that limitation is recorded rather than hidden by widening one gap until another part of the run looks wrong.
Downtown Toronto context
A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
