Prefab kitchen installation service scope · All job topics
Why the price can differ
Frame height, handling assistance, pull-out mechanisms, wall attachment and adjacent trim affect price. Retrofitting a tall unit into an existing kitchen may require more coordination than placing it in an empty room. Compare whether quotes include lifting, front adjustment and internal accessories, and how unsuitable clearances or damaged parts affect the visit.
A tall pantry and a short base cabinet should not share an unexplained installation allowance. Tall units need different handling, clearance and restraint decisions. Compare a shelf-only pantry with a fitted pull-out pantry separately, and require the written scope to identify any integration with adjoining trim or appliances.
Materials and included work
Use the specified tall frame, backing, legs or support system, restraints and compatible internal fittings. A pantry pull-out may impose different demands from fixed shelves and needs its own instructions. Substitute doors or rails require compatibility confirmation. Broken backing or damaged fixing points should be resolved before the unit is loaded.
Tall cabinet work does not include altering structural bulkheads, moving services or cutting a frame without an approved design. An impossible erection clearance must be addressed before damage occurs. Required restraint cannot be waived because a cabinet sits tightly between other units. Specialist appliance integration remains outside the ordinary pantry installation scope.
Ask these questions in writing
- Has the assembly and erection clearance been checked for this exact frame?
- Are restraints and all pantry pull-outs included?
- Who resolves conflicts with a bulkhead or adjacent appliance?
Assessment records the exact frame height and depth, the assembly method and room clearances. It reviews door swing, pull-out accessories and nearby appliances as well as the support and restraint arrangement. Different cabinet generations can have different erection requirements, so a familiar brand name is insufficient to establish the required working space.
Account for access and change approval
Long side panels may fit an elevator but struggle around a kitchen doorway or bulkhead. Share measurements of the narrowest turn and ceiling, not just the final wall width. The handling team and staging space should match the actual cabinet; a short appointment with one person may not match the manufacturer's assembly requirements.
A remote appraisal can change after hands-on review. Ask what condition changed, which options are available and how the revision affects the scope before approving extra work. If a material gap remains unexplained after matching the scope, seek an independent second opinion.
Planning example
A pantry estimate lists only a tall cabinet, while another identifies a pull-out interior, doors, restraint and adjoining trim. The owner requests the same product and finish list from both. The additional mechanism explains part of the labour difference. Handling assistance and restricted clearance are also explicit, so a lower price cannot silently assume a simpler shelf-only cabinet or an empty room.
Downtown Toronto context
A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
