Why the price can differ
Quantity, opening complexity, removal of old blinds, high access and whether the supplied kits are complete affect the estimate. Product exchanges and return visits should be addressed in writing. A blind installation price should not silently include custom fabrication, resizing or repair of window frames.
Installing a correctly sized complete blind differs from troubleshooting one purchased without measurements. Inside and outside mounting also use different clearances. Compare the same supplied products, removal obligations and return-visit assumptions, especially when one quote is conditional on all kits being ready and suitable.
Materials and included work
The supplied product must include the correct headrail, brackets, safety components and manufacturer documentation. Replacement parts need to match that model rather than merely resemble the originals. The materials allowance should distinguish installation consumables from missing product hardware or a blind that needs returning.
Electrical blind connections, motor wiring, window modifications and altering products contrary to their instructions are excluded. An owner-supplied blind is not automatically suitable because it was sold as universal. Missing required child-safety components or incompatible mounting surfaces are reasons to stop the affected work.
Ask these questions in writing
- Will fit and kit completeness be checked before installation starts?
- Is old blind removal and disposal included?
- What is the return-visit policy for missing or incorrect owner-supplied parts?
Check the blind model, measured dimensions, inside or outside mounting design and included brackets. Compare the product with the actual opening and operating clearances. Review window-handle movement, sill depth and building restrictions, then confirm whether installation can proceed without modifying the window assembly.
Account for access and change approval
Clear a safe working area in front of the window and confirm whether furniture can be moved. Deep counters, high windows and balcony-door locations can affect access. Condo requirements may govern window coverings visible from outside as well as which surfaces may be drilled or altered.
A remote appraisal can change after hands-on review. Ask what condition changed, which options are available and how the revision affects the scope before approving extra work. If a material gap remains unexplained after matching the scope, seek an independent second opinion.
Planning example
An estimate covers fitting complete correctly sized owner-supplied blinds. The owner asks what happens if a product is wrong or incomplete and whether old blinds are removed and discarded. Those questions establish both the scope and return-visit policy. An installation amount should not be assumed to include resizing an unsuitable product, shopping for replacements or repairing window frames unless those tasks are actually accepted.
Downtown Toronto context
A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
