Why the price can differ
The estimate should specify appliance count, finish type, accessible sides, deposit severity and safe access to upper faces. A heavily splashed range front differs from a refrigerator with a few fingerprints. Confirm whether handles, door edges, control surrounds and refrigerator top are included; appliance interiors and movement should be clearly separate optional items.
Compare exterior-only quotes using the same appliance list and accessible surfaces. A package that includes oven or refrigerator interiors involves extra preparation and time and should not be judged against a face-wiping service. Ask how the cleaner will handle a coated finish; the lowest price offers little information without a method and damage limitation.
Materials and included work
Select a product compatible with each appliance’s actual finish, following its care guide rather than a generic stainless-steel assumption. Use clean, soft tools and control liquid around switches, seams and vents. A small test area can reveal a finish response, but it cannot guarantee that already damaged coatings will regain an even appearance after wiping.
Exterior wiping excludes appliance repair, electrical work, vent clearing, filter servicing and internal cleaning unless separately agreed. Scratches and worn control labels cannot be cleaned away. A liquid spill inside a control panel or a damaged power connection needs an appropriate assessment, not a stronger cleaning attempt. Connected equipment should not be shifted during this task.
Ask these questions in writing
- Which appliance faces, handles, sides and tops are included?
- Are there model-specific finish restrictions?
- Are interiors and appliance movement expressly excluded?
List the appliances and identify their finishes, visible coating damage and operating condition. Ask whether the owner has a specific stainless finish or anti-fingerprint coating with care restrictions. Separate food splashes from heat discolouration or scratches. A clear view of the control panel helps establish what can be wiped without pressing buttons or introducing moisture.
Account for access and change approval
Clarify which sides are reachable without moving the appliance and whether the top of a refrigerator is within the agreed safe reach. Built-in units often expose only the face and handle. Work behind a range or beneath a connected dishwasher involves a different access question; permission to clean the front is not permission to move equipment.
A remote appraisal can change after hands-on review. Ask what condition changed, which options are available and how the revision affects the scope before approving extra work. If a material gap remains unexplained after matching the scope, seek an independent second opinion.
Planning example
An estimate for three appliance fronts is compared with a package advertised as appliance cleaning. The homeowner asks whether that package includes refrigerator interiors or the oven cavity. Once the faces, handles, reachable tops and interiors are listed separately, the quote becomes understandable. The owner can choose the exterior-only scope without expecting the package label to include every accessible part of the kitchen equipment.
Downtown Toronto context
A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
