Why the price can differ
Drawer number, runner complexity, condition and wall restraint influence labour. Rebuilding an incorrectly assembled dresser can take longer than assembling a new boxed product, particularly when connectors have damaged their holes. Itemize disassembly, replacement parts and return visits so the owner understands why a partial repair differs from straightforward assembly.
A quote for six drawers is not directly comparable to a three-drawer chest merely because the cabinets have similar width. Restraint, interlocks, condition and reassembly all change the scope. The relevant comparison is a complete, documented result with the safety features addressed, rather than the number of visible panels assembled.
Materials and included work
The dresser should have the correct drawer runners, stops, connectors and restraint kit for its model. Wall fixings must suit the actual attachment surface. Replacement restraint components need to be identified rather than improvised from unidentified ties. A damaged side panel or stripped fixing point may prevent safe completion even when spare screws are available.
Do not regard furniture assembly as repair of a recalled or structurally damaged dresser. Product recalls and manufacturer remedies take priority over cosmetic completion. If the required restraint cannot be fitted, the dresser remains an unresolved safety issue. Altering drawer interlocks or defeating stops is outside the agreed assembly service.
Ask these questions in writing
- Has the exact dresser model been checked before work?
- Does the quote include required restraint and drawer adjustment?
- Who arranges replacement panels or manufacturer remedies if needed?
The assessment records drawer count, runner type, rear attachment points and the intended wall. Older or partly assembled dressers need inspection for damaged cam holes and missing drawer stops. Product identification matters because similar-looking models may have different instructions or safety notices; unidentified parts should not be mixed between different dressers.
Account for access and change approval
Drawers and carcass panels occupy more staging space than the finished dresser footprint. Agree where parts can be laid out and where the assembled unit will sit, considering baseboards and nearby outlets. Condo access arrangements should include both delivery movement and any permitted drilling time, since those are different activities.
A remote appraisal can change after hands-on review. Ask what condition changed, which options are available and how the revision affects the scope before approving extra work. If a material gap remains unexplained after matching the scope, seek an independent second opinion.
Planning example
A six-drawer dresser has been partly assembled with several runners reversed. A new estimate includes inspection, selective dismantling and reassembly, while an online assembly allowance assumes unopened boxes. The owner compares those different assumptions before judging the price. Damaged fixing holes may still require a separate decision, so completion should not be promised before the condition of the disturbed joints is understood.
Downtown Toronto context
A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
