Books and documents packing: completion & aftercare

Review the agreed result and care instructions for books and documents packing. Keep completion notes and unresolved items clear.

Packing & unpacking service scope · All job topics

Review the agreed result

  • Books are packed in manageable cartons.
  • File groups retain their agreed order.
  • Owner-controlled records are separated.
  • Labels identify destination shelves or rooms.

Separate ordinary books from documents that must remain with the owner. Identify delicate bindings, files needed during the move and any agreed handling restrictions.

Keep the completion sequence clear

Work shelf by shelf, keep file groups together, protect vulnerable bindings and close manageable cartons before moving to the next section of the bookcase.

Ordinary packing does not include confidential-record classification, secure shredding or rare-book conservation. No document should be discarded simply because it looks old or duplicated.

Care after the visit

Rebuild shelves in the agreed order and retain box labels until the important files are located. Review empty cartons before recycling any packing paper.

Use suitably sized sturdy cartons, restrained fill quantities and clear shelf or room labels. Agree whether archives require a more detailed inventory than general household books.

Keep a record of an unresolved item

Compare the result with the approved written scope. Record any unfinished item, agreed exclusion or required specialist follow-up separately. Use ordinary observation and the provider’s demonstration; do not overload or destructively test an installation.

  • Shelf quantity and depth
  • Representative file organization
  • Stairs or corridor from study

Planning example

When the cartons arrive, the owner checks that the labelled tax folders remain together and the personally carried records are accounted for. Books are placed near their intended shelves without obstructing the office doorway. A carton with a damaged seam is opened first on a clear surface. Packing material is retained until loose inserts and papers have been checked against the agreed file groups.

Downtown Toronto context

A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
