Review the agreed result
- The specified restraint arrangement is addressed.
- Shelf supports and backing match the instructions.
- Placement and floor contact are checked.
- Any restriction on use is documented clearly.
The assessment examines bookcase height, width, backing, supplied restraint hardware and wall conditions at the chosen position. Baseboards can hold the unit away from the wall, while outlets may conflict with the intended restraint point. Photographs start the discussion, but they cannot reliably establish every concealed service or the wall construction.
Keep the completion sequence clear
Assembly follows the identified product instructions, with orientation and shelf layout agreed before placement. The anchoring method is confirmed against the wall and the product requirements. The final review checks the restraint, shelves, alignment and handover restrictions; no loading demonstration is used as proof that an unspecified anchor has sufficient capacity.
A furniture restraint is not a substitute for a sound bookcase or suitable wall attachment. Structural wall work, concealed-service investigation and repairs to badly damaged panels are separate decisions. If required anchoring cannot be completed, the written handover must clearly identify the unit as unfinished rather than describing assembly alone as ready for use.
Care after the visit
Follow the manufacturer loading guidance and distribute contents sensibly, keeping heavier items lower where appropriate. After moving the bookcase, reassess its restraint rather than assuming the old arrangement still applies. Stop use if the unit leans, a bracket loosens or a panel separates, and arrange inspection before reloading it.
The bookcase requires its complete manufacturer fittings, shelf supports and specified anti-tip components. Wall fixings depend on the actual substrate and restraint arrangement. A generic bag of plugs cannot establish suitability in advance. Where the wall condition cannot support the required attachment, record the problem and agree another location or specialist solution.
Keep a record of an unresolved item
Compare the result with the approved written scope. Record any unfinished item, agreed exclusion or required specialist follow-up separately. Use ordinary observation and the provider’s demonstration; do not overload or destructively test an installation.
- Bookcase model and supplied restraint parts.
- Full intended wall including baseboards and outlets.
- Any damaged backing, sides or existing restraint points.
Planning example
The assembled shelves look square, but the required restraint has not been fitted because the proposed attachment location is unsuitable. The job is recorded as incomplete, with the owner told not to load or use it as ready furniture. A documented next action is more meaningful than an attractive completion photograph, particularly where children may enter the room after the assembler leaves.
Downtown Toronto context
A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
