Review the agreed result
- Only agreed ordinary household dust has been addressed.
- Fresh coatings remain untouched where cure instructions restrict contact.
- Reachable approved ledges and floor edges are reviewed.
- Unknown residue or unfinished painter work is recorded for separate assessment.
Ask exactly what painting and preparation occurred, when it ended, and whether sanding or demolition produced the dust. Identify the paint products and surfaces still curing. The painter should explain which areas may be touched and when. Photos alone cannot identify dust hazards, so unknown residues or older-material disturbance need appropriate assessment before a household cleaning task is agreed.
Keep the completion sequence clear
Verify that the room is ready, record fresh-finish restrictions and remove ordinary loose dust from agreed compatible surfaces before floors. Keep tools away from uncured coatings and do not spread residue into occupied rooms. Inspect reachable ledges and floor edges after work, recording any area left untouched because the painter’s instructions require more time before contact.
This task excludes lead or asbestos assessment, silica or demolition dust, mould, solvent spills and specialist post-construction cleaning. It also excludes paint-spatter removal and correction of a painter’s finish. If the residue source is unclear, stop and seek the appropriate assessment. No ordinary clean should be presented as clearance testing or proof that renovation-related exposure concerns have been resolved.
Care after the visit
Follow the paint product’s own care instructions before returning to normal wall or cabinet cleaning. Keep the painter’s product information with the household records. If more dust appears because work continues or building ventilation carries material into the room, identify the source first; repeated household cleaning should not be used to disguise an unfinished or uncontrolled renovation process.
Products and tools should be selected only after the residue is established as ordinary household dust and the coatings permit contact. The cited paint manufacturer distinguishes dry paint from fully cured paint. Keep the plan gentle and specific to the finish; a newly painted wall does not automatically belong in a damp-wiping scope just because surrounding floors are being cleaned.
Keep a record of an unresolved item
Compare the result with the approved written scope. Record any unfinished item, agreed exclusion or required specialist follow-up separately. Use ordinary observation and the provider’s demonstration; do not overload or destructively test an installation.
- Completed room showing remaining painter materials
- Close-up of dust with its known source explained
- Paint product and date of application
Planning example
At review, ordinary dust has been removed from the approved ledges and floor, but the freshly painted cabinet has not been wiped. The owner checks that restriction against the painter’s instructions and schedules any later care accordingly. A paint spot remains on a fitting and is recorded separately. The completed task does not claim to certify the room after renovation or resolve unknown exposure concerns.
Downtown Toronto context
A home near Union Station or CityPlace may have separate lobby and loading entrances. Include the actual service route, postal code and any building permissions. See the downtown focus perimeter and GTA enquiry guide before requesting a date.
