Why the price can differ
Decision support, inventory detail, volume and multiple destinations influence labour. Transport, authorized disposal and storage should appear as separate services rather than hidden assumptions inside an organizing estimate.
Compare sorting assistance with full removal coordination. A low packing price may exclude the conversations, destination planning and records that make a downsizing move manageable.
Materials and included work
Use reversible labels and a simple inventory for items awaiting decisions. Provide clean staging containers without marking finished furniture, documents or sentimental belongings with permanent adhesive.
Organizing is not appraisal, estate administration or authority to donate someone else’s property. Items with disputed ownership, financial value or private information require explicit owner direction.
Ask these questions in writing
- Who may approve each item’s destination?
- How are undecided items protected?
- Are transport and disposal separate quotations?
Compare the new home’s storage and furniture layout with current possessions. Separate space limitations from emotional decisions, and identify ownership questions before anyone starts removing belongings.
Account for access and change approval
Reserve a calm sorting space with clear walking routes. Toronto condos may restrict hallway staging, and a building waste room is not an automatic disposal destination for household goods.
A remote appraisal can change after hands-on review. Ask what condition changed, which options are available and how the revision affects the scope before approving extra work. If a material gap remains unexplained after matching the scope, seek an independent second opinion.

A low estimate covers packing retained belongings but excludes sorting conversations and multiple drop-off destinations. Another estimate includes decision support and an inventory. The resident asks for the same bounded sorting session in each proposal, with transport listed separately. This explains the price difference without assuming either offer includes appraisal, donation acceptance or authority to remove another family member’s possessions.
